running scripts from .profile

hi

i'm trying to run a ksh script from .profile so that every time i log in, the script will run automatically to:

1) pick up one string variable randomly;(i've already put some string variables in the .profile file)
2) write the string variable out to the .signature file in my home directory

the following is what i've tried:
......(omitted stuff)
a1="hello"
a2="thanks"
a3="bye"
#!/bin/ksh
for i in 'seq 1 3';
do
echo $'a'i
done

but i got the following errors after logging in:
ksh: /etc/profile[12]: export: 3: not identifier
$ai
$

what was the problem and how can i fix it?
