Redirecting scp output.

Hi,

How can i redirect the out of scp command to a file. Since iam copying large number of files (say 2000), I would like to  monitor the progress of the copy. I redirected the o/p of scp in the script as follows

scp filename remote:location > mylog

It is creating the mylog file but not writing the scp o/p in the log file. how can redirect the o/p of scp to a file.

Also redirect the stderr to the log file:

scp filename remote:location >mylog  2>&1

Hi,

Evenafter redirecting the stderr it is not working. Still the logfile is empty.

are you using openssh or something different?

use
-v   Verbose mode.

-v will give you output.   A lot of debugging output which may be a little too verbose.

From memory, scp will only display the progres meter if STDOUT is your tty and not redirected.

Yes. If I use -v, it is giving lot of debugging messeges. If i run the script with out redirecting the o/p to file, i am getting following message on the display.

myfile     100% 5334     5.2KB/s   00:00

When i tried to reditrect this o/p to a file, it is not  redirecting. The log file still has no data.

That's just the way scp works unfortunately.  I don't know of any easy workaround.
