Evenafter redirecting the stderr it is not working. Still the logfile is empty.

How can i redirect the out of scp command to a file. Since iam copying large number of files (say 2000), I would like to monitor the progress of the copy. I redirected the o/p of scp in the script as follows
scp filename remote:location > mylog
It is creating the mylog file but not writing the scp o/p in the log file. how can redirect the o/p of scp to a file.

Also redirect the stderr to the log file:
scp filename remote:location >mylog 2>&1
