The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. Handles not being cleaned up when a thread is deleted

Can someone give me some help with the following....

I'm working on a program which involves a fairly time consuming calculation. To help speed things up, I have started to use multiple threads. It all seems to work fine except when working on some rather complex calcs I get some "unable to write" exceptions.

I have a hunch that this is being cause by windows running out of resources. I've notice the the number of handles currently allocated is reaching into the many of millions. This seems VERY excessive given I only have about 2,500 threads running at the time the problem usually occurs.

I have set the threads not to be auto delete but I do delete the threads myself when I am done with them. Why aren't the handles being released?

Anyone got any ideas?

Here is some code for when I start a thread:

CWinThread* pThread = AfxBeginThread( MyThreadProc, myThreadHelpers[threadCount], THREAD_PRIORITY_HIGHEST, 0, CREATE_SUSPENDED, NULL);

pThread->m_bAutoDelete = FALSE;

threadCount++;



And when I delete my threads...
