Question

ATL server using AfxBeginThread() MFC stuff.

MFC 6.0 / VC6.0 / Win9x, Win2k, and WinXP

If I create an ATL server, with MFC support, and my server calls AfxBeginThread() / ...EndThead(), are there any special consideration?  I believe that AfxBeginThread() creates a thread within the same process as the main ATL server thread.  If I make my server an in-proc or out-proc do I need to tread AfxBeginThread() any different?

I think need to create new thread from out of process servers only.
 what's the use of creating this thread from the inprocess server? This thread won't be the ATL main thread.

My ATL server is used to get information from 5 usb devices using Compsite HID.

But creating thread from the inprocess server is not safe because, you should kill the thread from the cleaning up code for the server dll.

I currently have the code in a regular DLL and kill the threads via SetEvent.

regular DLL = MFC regular DLL and I SetEvent from inside my class, embedded in the DLL project, that launches the threads.

Then what's the issue? you can use the AFXBeginThread or _beginthread , _endthread function pairs, if you are using C runtime lib functions in your thread procedure. you can user CreateThread API also.

My question are: Is it leagal to use AfxCreateThread() inside an ATL inproc server?  Would this be called an MTA, STA or something else?  How about the same questions in an out-of-proc server?

inprocess server has it own thread mode, such as: single , apartment or multi-thread.
general speaking, the thread problem is solved by system except for multi mode.

What category does this design fall under?
An inproc server that launches and maintains 5 separate threads created via AfxGeginThread(().  How about for the outofproc server?  Are these STA, MTA or what?
