that worked! had tried DestroyWindow, CloseWindow and a few others with no effect but PostMessage seems to do the trick, thanks.

Browse All TopicsI'm writing a procedure to detect whenever a certain dialog window is shown by powerpoint and then cancel the window.
To do this I plan to:
- find the id of the dialog that I want to close
- get the id of any new window that is opened by any application
- if the id matches the id of the dialog i want to close, then call windows api to destroy the window
Sounds simple enough, except I have no MFC experience so don't know where to start. Any advice would be appreciated!

This should do what you want - pass the window the message that it should be closed
