The Solution Rating System

  • The Feedback of the Community

Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. Virtual COM port call freezing

I'm having an issue with a usb-serial device being lost in the middle of a call to EscapeCommFunction in the controlling thread.

This function then never seems to return and any attempt to close the thread or close the port handle results in further freezing.

Is there anyway to force an API call to return or fail, or to force the thread to release the device and terminate?

Otherwise, the process hangs in memory on close and requires a reboot.

I'm assuming that this is just another issue with virtual com port drivers, but I need a way around it.
