The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? I have a MAth problemDont know where to put it

It might be really simple to you guys but I need it urgently

suppose On a graph I have two data points say 2,8 and 5,6  and draw a straight line

Now What would be the the yalue of Y for different x values ? any formula ?

I need it in formula so that i can use it in a program for dynamic input.
