The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Best Advice: How to take information stored as Documents and place in Database records?

Ok, I'm looking to be pointed in the right direction here as I try to figure out how to develop an interface for a Resume Skills tracking Database.

What I'm trying to do is gather information from resumes that are currently stored in multiple Word Documents and PDFs and load this information into a MySQL database through a web app. The idea is to try to create a collection of Skills held by employees in our company.

Each document would be imported individually.

The basic process I've mapped out in my head is:

1.) User selects file to import
2.) My program (written in undetermined language, but preferably PHP) accesses this file and:
3a.) option a - programatically makes a "best guess" as to what the skills are and displays them for confirmation
or 3b.) option b- displays a visual of the document and asks the user to identify the skills section, thus recording the start and end of the data, once again displaying the skills for confirmation.
4.) Records these skills in a table.

Has anyone crafted something like this before?  Have you suggestions, or resources that I can follow?

I'm not really sure how to go about navigating the document. There are usually indicators such as Key words, underlining, bolding, larger font size etc to delimit sections and either line breaks or bullets to indicate the skills. When the document can't meet those expectations, I would expect the user to either key the skills manually or copy/paste.

Thanks!
