The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Best software for writing use cases

Asked by BattelleITS in Software/Systems Design, Project Management, Developer Tools

I am looking for some software options for writing use cases.  I have recently taken on the role of requirements analyst on my software team and am looking for a good way to write and manage use cases.

I have been evaluating Case Complete for about a week and I like it.  However, it costs $600 and everyone who would ever need to work on the use cases would need to purchase a license.  In addition,  several people on my team use Linux and Case Complete isn't supported on Linux.  While these are not show-stoppers, I just wanted to know if anyone else out there has used some good software for use case management.

Here are the main features I'm looking for:
1.  The software I need is for writing full use cases, not just for drawing the actor-goal use case diagrams.  The kind of use cases I'm talking about are like Alistair Cockburn's "fully-dressed" use cases that he describes in "Writing Effective Use Cases".
2.  The software needs to have excellent support for tracking changes to use cases.  We have multiple developers using the use cases and they need an easy way to know when something in the requirements has changed.
3.  The software must have the ability to export MS Word
4.  Cost: there are about 8 people on my team that might need a copy of the software.  I'd like to keep the cost below 3k.

Also, MS Word is not an option.  I'm looking for a professional tool for managing large collections of use cases.Start Free Trial
