Upgrading blackberry enterprise server 3.6.2.14 to 4.0

Currently I have a blackberry enterprise server 3.6.2.14 running and while back ago I purchased 4.0 but haven't had the time to do the upgrade, I was reading the upgrade instructions yesterday and under the upgrading the blackberry enterprise server I noticed the following "Warnings: You can currently upgrade from BlackBerry Enterprise Server version 2.1.5, 3.5.2, 3.6.3, and later releases only."  In here it does not mention my version 3.6.2.14.  Has anyone done an upgrade from my version to 4.0 or 4.1?  I have no support contract so really don't know how I should proceed with this upgrade.

Thanks.

From what I've been hearing, upgrading BES from 3.6 to 4.0 on the same server is not a problem, BUT ONE SHOULD PLAY IT SAFE NO DESPITE THAT REVELATION.

The safest option would be to install 4.1 on a new server and then migrate the users over.  This way you will have assurance that in the event of ANY issues, you have at least the option of reverting all the users back to 3.6 or updating to 4.x.  The upgrade schedule can follow your specific timeframe as opposed to you rushing to complete the task.

not as a comfort, but as a FYI; RIM also charges per incident so you are not entirely without support.

Regards,
I would do as ECNSSMT mentioned above but also backup the devices with desktop manager for the users how can't afford to lose any data from their device.  I have upgraded a number of 3.6 installs to BES 4.1 and some have failed and other worked fine.  For some reason 3.6 wasn't as fussy as 4.1 when it comes to the settings within exchange, for example one install chaged all the email addresses to the .local email address even though it wasn't the default SMTP address.

I realized that we do actually pay for support through Telus, so I put a call in and they told me that there should be no problems to do the upgrade from our current version to 4.0, but I have escalated the call to their blackberry server techs just to double check.

One of the things that I am looking at is upgrading to 3.6 first and then 4.0 like SysExpert mentioned above.

I don't have version 4.1 only 4.0, and no plans right now to purchase it so I have to do the upgrade to 4.0

I meant to say upgrading 3.63 to 4.0 not 3.6.
sounds good, it is wise to double check your migation path.  It is also prudent to have a contingency in the event something goes horroribly wrong.  This is not a Blackberry recommendation exclusively; this is the point I always take with anything I do that involves patching, upgrading, installing server or server related products.  And if you are cautious, plan this upgrade for the next available 3 day weekend.

Regards,
If you have support then get the DOwnload for 3.6.3 and 4.0 and 4.1
It is available on the RIM site.

I hope this helps !

I am looking at getting the 3.6.3 and then from 3.6.3 I will go to 4.0, 4.1 will have to wait till later.  I would love to wait for a 3 day weekend but I have already scheduled the upgrade for this wednesday at 10am, and I am not planning for the upgrade to go longer then 1 hour or so.  The problem is that I am doing the upgrade on a server that's located in another city, so I have to do it during work hours in case something does go wrong, at least one other IT guy will be there in case I can't do something remotely.  We only have about 35 blackberry users so they are all notified of th upgrade so in case something does go wrong, it's not going to piss off hundred's of users but only 35 or so:)  The upgrade seems simple enough, should be ok.

in lieu of the cautious approach, may your task goes smoothly.  I am pulling for you...

Regards,
Sounds good.

Backup what little data is involved if possible beforehand.
If win 2000 Server or newer, also backup the system State .
