no "bluetooth" in control panel

My computer is a Fujitsu lifebook s6120. I am told that it has Bluetooth.
My OS is Win xp sp2.
However I cannot see "Bluebooth devices" in the control panel.
A support article suggested that it mght be found under "printers and other hardware" but it is not there.
Another article suggested that I do a search on the computer for "bthprops.cpl". I found this file and double clicked it but nothing happened. I also right-clicked this file and chose "open with control panel" but again nothing happened.

How do I know if my computer is Bluetooth enabled?
How do i get bluetooth to appear in the control panel?

Hi,

I've checked out your laptop and you should have an intergrated Bluetooth card.

Is there any reference to this in your manual - or is there a switch to turn this feature on? You might need to install other drivers?

Press the Windows Key and Pause | Break (above page up) then go to device manager (under hardware). Right click on the screen and scan for new hardware - if this didn't work try and add this device manaully.

It sounds like this device needs to be activated, XP should plug/play the device.......

I spoke to Fujitsu and he said that the s6120 can come "with" and "without" Bluetooth. I think that my hardware suplier didnt provide the feature. Thanks for your time.

Look into the 'Services' and see if the Bluetooth service is running. If not then that is your problem. Start the service and you will see the bluewtooth icon in the control panel.

I've been investigating this problem for my own S6120. Apparently the S6120D model does not include Bluetooth, but the S6120 should.

There seems to be a distinction between the drivers and the 'stack'. From my understanding, the drivers allow the Operating System to communicate with the device. The 'stack' is the software which allows the user to control the device (the part you seem to have missing).

Before upgrading to Windows XP SP2 I was using the Widcomm drivers which came on a CD with the laptop. However, I found this Bluetooth stack to lack functionality (it also seemed to be incompatible with 90% of the services on my phone).

Since upgrading to Windows XP SP2 I came across a Fujitsu's own Bluetooth stack named 'Plugfree'. This also lacked the functionality I needed and has a completely non-standard interface.

After searching around the Internet, I keep finding references to problems with the built-in Bluetooth device on this model of laptop. It is not compatible with the built-in stack included in Windows XP SP2, therefore you have to load a vendor-supplied stack.

The Fujitsu-Siemens site does not appear to offer any Bluetooth stacks for this model; merely the actual bluetooth Audio/SCO drivers.

Therefore I've decided that I'm going to give up on it, disable it in the BIOS and go buy a Bluetooth dongle which should be compatible with the Windows XP SP2 stack.

Please do NOT use BlueSoleil software. I tired and it was about impossible to get it off my system
