What is OS/2

I haven't heard much about OS/2.  How is it different from Windows, DOS or other operating systems?

Many thanks,
Shane

OS/2 is one of the most advanced operating systems you can think of. The kernel of the OS (operating system), has been written as far as I know in 100% or at least a big part. This means OS/2 is way more faster then Windows N.T. Microsoft here operating system is filled with bugs. I will not say OS/2 is perfect but in Microsoft here network part there are mayor problems. And Microsoft has still not released a new version of Windows for the consumer with a WIndows N.T. kernel and a low price. For more info about OS/2 that is not genereal, go to www.os2ss.com. There are a lot of links of OS/2 users that use OS/2 in daily live. Goto www.software.ibm.com/OS/WARP from there is a link about OS/2 and where you can get it. The price of OS/2 will be quite a shock. But IBM is not like Microsoft that rob you of your money and then keep you unsupported. IBM still fully supports OS/2 warp 3 in way of fixpaks, they same thinks as service packs for Windows. But OS/2 warp 3 was from 1994. Microsoft does no longer support Windows 3.1!
IBM has dropped telephone support for OS/2. But on the internet there are plenty of newsgroup and people to help you. In live in the netherlands and for all my OS/2 problems and products I use Mensys, www.mensys.nl or info@mensys.nl. There are not many resellers of OS/2 but the OS is perfect for DOS and WIndows 3.1 programs. In the future (1 to 2 years) a lot of Windows applications (9x and n.t.) will run under OS/2. Look at www.netlabs.org. And check the wine bit.
