Abit KT7 Raid and SBlive!, problem with gameport

I have a Abit KT7-Raid Motherboard and a Sound Blaster Live! value sound card, My problem is that I can't seem to use the gameport located on the sound card, all the drivers are installed fine and there are no conflicts showing, but when I go into the controller properties it scans the gameport but finds nothing. I connect the controller properly and then turn on the computer, but it never detects or sees my attached controller, does anyone know why this is happening or how to fix it?

My friend has the same Motherboard+sound card combo and experiences the same problem. Does anyone know of a resolution to this problem?

thanks for your time....

Happens all the time with SBLive:-(

What operating system?
What version of Liveware?
Latest drivers?

What version of DirectX?

A quick fix for Microsoft game devices is to install the game controller software that leaves an applet running in the task bar.
forgive me for my ignorence in regard to the Abit motherboard, does it have an on-board sound card?
Have you tried other sound cards?  It might be worth your time to buy a $20 Soundblaster16 for testing.

listening....
was planning on buying the KT7 Raid but scared now.
This question is for ASUS's web site, read it :
Q16. After I install audio driver for Creative PCI 128 / SB Live! Player 1024 / SB Live Platinum for A7V motherboard, I got IRQ conflict in the system. How can I fix the problem?

A : The Creative® sound cards need two IRQs. One is for SB16 DOS emulation (ISA IRQ) and the other is for PCI IRQ. The BIOS assigns all IRQ to PCI slot by default because A7V doesn't have ISA slot. Please correct the problem with the following setting in the BIOS setup menu.
Advanced -> PCI Configuration -> PCI/PNP IRQ Resource Exclusion -> "IRQ 5 Reserved for Legacy Device" -> "Yes"

ok, one by one  8-)
netmage,

What operating system? Win98SE
What version of Liveware? not installed
Latest drivers? yes, should be, will check tonight and post tomorrow

What version of DirectX? should be 7.0a
I'll check to make sure also tonight.

A quick fix for Microsoft game devices is to install the game controller software that leaves an applet running in the task bar.
I'm not using a microsoft game device, I am using a logitech wingman, no installation diskette.

asafb,
nope, no on-board sound.

1cell,
I have tried a vortex1 A3D sound card but it had bigger problems, thus the reason for going with the SBlive.  All in all I haven't had any problems with my KT7 Raid board (once I got all the drivers installed) , I am very happy with it (win98 boots in about 20 seconds) but the only problem is the gameport doesn't work, everything else about the sound card works fine.

1175089,
first off, I have an Abit motherboard NOT Asus, secondly, there are no conflicts showing, everything installed fine, and  my SB emulation works properly with no IRQ conflicts.

I appreciate everyone's effort on this matter, keep trying as I will also. I should have all the latest drivers for everything as I "ran the gambit" when installing my KT7 board.

PS. I have seen this problem on numerous BB with systems running Athlon CPUs (thunderbird/durons?) but haven't seen a definite fix for it yet.

thanks
well, I downloaded and installed the latest drivers for my sound card (thought I had already) and then I went into my controller properties and futzed around alittle and voila, it works now. I want to thank all of you though for your time and effort!!!

Why are you deleteing this question?

In my comment i asked whether you had installed the latest driver version to which you replied that you'd check and consequently you updated them.

Don't you think that there was some input here that helped?

That is a good and valid point, I am sorry for overlooking the fact that you said "latest drivers?"  I guess you could say in a way this input did help me, in that it did help to re-inforce my feeling to re-install the drivers, using the ones from Creative's website (which you would probably agree with me that this is one of the first tenets of troubleshooting, latest drivers) which I was thinking of doing before posting this question.

Would you like the points for this? (you were the only one to post along this line of possibility)
