How to switch off a Pc automatically

Since I have reinstalled WIN98 my comuter doesn't switch off <'hope it's the right expression ;-)'> automatically when I quit windows. I have always to turn off my computer by pressing the button.

What can I do?
(I thought this depends on the type of motherboard)

Thanx Jakob

Usually when your computer won't shut off after you read a ten inch manual and followed the directions, it means the motherboard is no good. get at least a DMA66 and a 7200RPM hard drive support.
Do you have an ATX compliant motherboard and case? The only way I know how to tell is if the power supply connects to the motherboard with a one piece connector or two connectors side by side that may look like one. The one piece is an ATX case and board.  If it is ATX, you should use the ACPI capabilities and turn off the BIOS APM.  This can fix many power management problems.
