Mouse Scroll Wheel Problem - WIN2K Pro / Logitech / KVM switch

Had a scroll-wheel optical mouse on my WIN2K Pro box for a year or so. Added a KVM switch (allows me to switch between an old 98 box and the WIN2K box) about 9 months ago - the scroll-wheel optical mouse carried on working just fine.

Yesterday, decide to buy a Logitech Optical Cordless Scroll Wheel Mouse and it just worked fine, scrolling was just as it always had been.

Then (!) I decided to install the Logitech drivers and applications that came on the installation CD. The wizard identified the wrong kind of mouse (3 button rather than the one I've got - 2 button with clickable scroll wheel). Which means no scrolling - eeek!

Since then - the only way I can get scrolling working is to connect the mouse directly to the WIN2K box (i.e. leaving the KVM switch out of the equasion) OR using another log on that has never seen the Logitech CD.

I've tried every concievable combination of uninstalling and reinstalling both Logitech and Microsoft drivers - to no avail. I cannot get back to the situation before the Logitech installation, when scrolling worked with the KVM switch in place.

PS Currently got "Microsoft PS/2 Compatible Mouse" installed and the _only_ place I can get scrolling is in mouse properties and the pointers window!!!

I'd be grateful if someone knows the answer.

Tiny :)

Magic! I downlaoded the MS Intellimouse s/w from Drivers.Com (easier than Microsoft.Com) and following installation everything works fine again.

Why can't Logitech write drivers like that?!

In your commentyou say "I did not install the Logitech drivers". Why was that? Did you know they were iffy??

I will accept your comment as answer. Thanks

PS Anyone have any idea why a KVM switch would cause the Logitech drivers to go wobbly, but not the MS ones??

Tiny :)
Glad it helped!  I didn't install the Logitech drivers because I re-build my machine.  I had installed the Logitech drivers previously and they gave me problems as well.  What would happen is the wheel would do funny things like either not scroll or cause a window to jump up and down, scrolling wildly.  So when I rebuild the machine I skipped those drivers.
