Internet Explorer ; remove MSN search

How can I remove the redirect to MSN Search when mistyping a URL ? Or even better:how can I change it to search google.com instead ?
I tried the instructions as given on http://www.infopackets.com/computer+questions/internet+explorer+6+spyware__alexa+registry+key+part+2.htm
but those didn't work..?

Have you tried "Tools">"Internet Options">"Advanced Options">"Search from location bar">"Don't search" ?
If the problem is caused by spyware, you can download Lavasoft AdAware to remove it:

http://www.ad-aware.net

Or use RegCleaner, or Regedit.
This one is easy.  Here's how you do it.

On Internet Explorer, click on the Search button.  Under the X to close it there is a customize button.  Open that up and select the Autosearch Settings at the bottom.  From there under the Service Provider section select Google sites.  From there click OK and OK again.

Now whenever you do a search don't use the search button anymore.  Just type in what you are looking for in the address window and it will instantly search the Google sites for it.

If it's Adware causing it then you'll have to remove it for this to work.  This procedure is the same for IE 5.x and 6.x.  I double checked to make sure.  This will eliminate it searching MSN if you mistype a URL now.

Works everytime.  Good luck and happy Googling!

uhm..don't want to spoil it but that didn't work.. I can't choose any other search engine but MSN.COM :(
rataplan,

It does work but you don't use the search button.  What it does is set it up so that your address bar will double as a google search engine.

Erase the URL from the address bar and type in something you would want to search for after making the modification.  Something like 'Christmas Candy'.  If it cannot find a web address to link to, it will immediately display a list of sites that Google has searched about Christmas Candy.

As far as exactly how to get the Search bar to do that, haven't found that one.  This is just a good workaround so you don't have to use the Search button at all.
no, it *really* doesn't work :)
I click customize, but in the list with Service Providers I have ONLY msn to pick..neither can I add Google or any other site...
OK.  Maybe you have a customized version of IE that won't allow any other search engines.  The two I checked it on are not specific to any particular company such as MSN or such.

Thanks for letting me know.
np//I removed the MSN search but still get redirected to it tho..should be possible thru the register I think..?
anyway, tx for the trouble..I'd post a screenshot otherwise, but can't include img-tags here..
