Free Program to ERASE a hard drive.

windows ME includes a little program called format
that will do the trick,, os will be gone also

Format does not write all 0's to the hard drive.

Download killdisk.exe from http://www.killdisk.com/ and put it on your boot floppy, reboot and type killdisk {enter} at command line.

if you need a boot floppy go to www.bootdisk.com or put in a blank floppy and type

format a: /s

at command line

I worked on a friends PC to get rid of the ME death grip. The killdisk was pretty easy to get it erased. Thanks very much, the little old lady thanks you too !!!

OK, I had been asked by a friend to re-format her friends PC, a 200 Mghz Pentium I MMx, (woo) . Don't laugh, it was a gift to an elderly person in need of contact with the internet. She is disabled, etc..
   
     So I go ever to help knowing a ge-format will make the PC all shiney and new, and it did .... they are so very happy now.  So I would like to forward the glow radiating from this otherwise, well lets just say that Ms Kathy is a happy camper for now !!!

   But now I am wondering, just how does one make a boot disk for windows ME which contains the "format" dos program???, (see how much I've learned? I never knew "format" was a MS-DOS program. It seems, and I am just "guessing" here, that somehow those clever little programers is lsd valley, left "format" out, when one makes a boot disk for winme???  I bet they all get a really good laugh sitting in the break room, sucking on the reefer madness stick,  imagining how much frustration the self taught PC Enthusiast is sweating over this bug.) If they could just have whitnesses the frustration of this Lady. Thanks for this site and the Knowledge I was able to pass along. She really is delighted!

   So. I was contemplating Sueing ole Bill and his merry crew for causing the elderly so much duress.  
     (Duress (coercion) (as a term of jurisprudence) is a possible defense, via excuse, by which a defendant may argue that they should not be held criminally liable for actions which broke the law. Black's Law Dictionary (6th ed.) defines duress as: "any unlawful threat or coercion used...to induce another to act [or not act] in a manner [they] otherwise would not [or would]." A possible example of duress would involve robbing a bank in order to pay a ransom. Courts generally do not accept a defense of duress when harm done by the defendant, such as murder, was greater than the courts perception of the coercive influence.

    I bet I could win the case too, LOL     ;)
