xp home wont boot?

ok i have a laptop with xp home on it and i tried to do a repair install and it keeps failing in thhe middle of it and the only thing i can get into now is the recovery console is there any command i can use in the recovery console to go back to a previous date or a way to cancel the install because no matter what i do now it keeps booting into the OS and says setup is being restarted even in safe mode please help asap thanks

Unfortunately the information you've provided is sort of sketchy...so I'm shooting at a target in the dark. One thing you can do in the recovery console is run CHKDSK /R

Did you do a repair install according to http://www.dougknox.com/xp/tips/xp_repair_install.htm
I have never had any problems from this series of steps.

i love it i went the the microsoft support link for "Setup Stops Responding with 34 Minutes Remaining" and basiclly microsoft says something is failing but they dont know what its  very comical
I feel your pain. I had the same comment about another technet article just the otherday.

I agree I have the same problem its a complete joke, no solution.
