recommendation for automated secure online credit card processing service.
What is a good processing engine? I see a lot of people using Nova, but i have not a clue.
I am building an e-commerce site that needs automated credit card processing.
I will most likely have 5-10 transactions per day for six months, then possibly grow to 20-100 per day.
Can anybody recommend a service with good rates?

Do you have a merchant account? If so, does that account support gateway processing? Which Gateway?

The US. No i dont have a merchant account yet, i was thinking of using Nova.

I will be hosting this on my linux server, i only have 1 product to sell, so the shopping cart will be pretty simple. I am thinking that i will get my gateway from Agorapay - http://www.agorapay.com/pricing.html - $22.95 per month for 500 transactions (I doubt i would exceed 500 soon)
They also have refer to merchant account services through Humboldt Bank - http://www.agorapay.com/merchacct.html 2.2% or .35 per transaction, .10 for AVS and $15 monthly fee.

So you are looking at about $38.00 a month? Pretty good - that is average. $.45 a transaction (transaction plus AVS) is a bit high though - if you are selling a low ticket item - say $10.00 - that is about 6.7% and compared to 2.39% / $.30 - that is 5.4%. If it is a $20 item, then that is 4.45%. Then also do take into consideration that 500 tranactions. Does that also include a batch fee - usually everytime you hit the gateway, there is a charge.
As far as a shopping cart - you really do not even need one - a simple form will also do
