What is a good general purpose SNMP software
Hi all,
I'm new to SNMP and I'm looking for a simple / basic SNMP software to catch SNMP packets to run on Win OS.
Freeware or low cost is prefered but I'd like to hear about any good software.
thanks in advance

Hi,
what I was looking for was a program to receive and decode SNMP TRAPs.
like -- SNMP Trap Watcher at http://www.bttsoftware.co.uk/snmptrap.html --
but now that you mention an SNMP query tool what does that do? is there a standardized way of setting up a DB of recieved traps?
Also if there is source code for a simple Trap Watcher in Java or C# that would realy help me out.

The query tool enables you to pick from a list of variables and then poll the results regularly which is normally used to produce a graph. For example you can poll the interface byte counters and graph the difference which is basically a realtime graph of the bandwidth usage.

WhatsUp Gold is a great tool to use in a small/medium environment. There is no real limitation on how large a scale you can cover and the program is one of the most inexpensive on the market. It has a rather robust, yet useful set of tools for notification/reporting for monitoring of TCP/IP and Windows services as well as SNMP Trap Receiving. All the monitored devices can be conveniently mapped out on a central monitoring screen also.

If you have any NIX experience, this is the one for you. We replaced our costly Cisco application with this freebee...
With that being said, it does most of what the Cisco appilication did, and EVERTHING WE NEEDED IT TO DO...
