Hi theitguy,
If you can't afford software, but have an extra drive or lots of CD-R's or writable DVD's then you can use Windows XP's own backup program.

HOW TO: Install Backup from the CD-ROM in Windows XP Home Edition

How to Use the Backup Utility to Back Up Files and Folders in Windows XP Home Edition

Cheers!
Hi theitguy:

You need a drive imaging software like "Image for Windows" or from Drive Image etc. I use "Image for Windows" ($25) from terabyte software. Once installation of XP, drivers are over, you need to create a disk image and transfer to CD (2 or more). Using the image CDs, you can restore to factory defaults in a quick way.
