DNS Basics - Where to use Stub v Forwarding v Pri/Sec Zones on win2003
I'm studying for the 70-291 exam. I'm farmilliar with the four methods to enable cross dns server resoltuion. Those being
Stub Zones (lists name servers)
Forwarding (fowards all requests)
Conditional Forwarding (by domain name)
Root Hints
I'm just not sure where to use Stub Zones vs Forwarding/Conditional Forwarding, functionally they acheive the same result, to enable resoltion for clients on two different dns zones/name spaces. I'm doing some practice exams now along and they're many questions that ask whether it's better to use stub or forwarding. What is the best practice or RULE OF THUMB??
regards

excellent thanks for the info, that should help me lots on the exams, and for my own reference when settting up dns when i'm doing jobs with dns
thats an important functional difference.
btw, a Stub zone is updateing it's NS records automatically, Forwarders have to be updated manually.
Conditional Forwarders are often used for cross server resolution in an intranet while migrating to a central dns.
