receive attachments as winmail.dat
I use MS Outlook as my mail client. When I sent a mail to my client with text and graphics in the body of the message and excel and powepoint as attachments, my client receives only the text portion. The graphics and the attachments are not received by the client.Instead he receives an attachment called winmail.dat. What could be the reason and what is the solution? Please help.............
Info from MS on Outlook 2003, similar applies to other versions of Outlook

I tried this, I am able to send the plain text and attachment. But I have to include text and graphics in the body of the Mail.
There are three types of mail formats coming out of Outlook:
Plain text
MIME
WINMAIL.DAT
Whenever you send a message containing formatting, images, or attached files, it uses either MIME or WINMAIL.DAT. When Outlook refers to sending it in rich text format, it refers to WINMAIL.DAT... but MIME content can contain almost all of the same formatting. But, whereas MIEM is an Internet standard understood by almost all mail systems, WINMAIL.DAT is a propietary Microsoft format. Either one will give you "rich text" type messages to the recipient.

Client is not able to see the Graphics and Charts in the Body of the email. But he is able to see the attachments and text. How I can send the e-mail with Text and Graphics in the body.

I am using Microsoft Outlook 2000
Open Outlook
Menu Tools -> Options
Mail Format tab
Send in this message format: <-------- change this from...
Microsoft Rich Text Format
...to...
HTML
That solves the whole problem, for all your recipients.

Anoop, did I give you bad information? You seem dissatisfied.
You have Outlook configured to send the message as Rich Text. You can change this for all of Outlook, or on a per-contact bassi. So, at leatst for this contact, tunr it off.
Best regards,
