Sound Issue with XP

Hi,

I have a weird sound issue in XP,

My sound has stopped working so I removed the drivers, installed a new sound card, (diferent make), it all installs ok, device manager is reporting no problems, but if I go into the control panel, sound & audio devices, everything is greyed out. This is the same problem I had before i installed the new sound card. I'm an experienced PC user so no posts about re-installing drivers please. Does anyone know of a fix as I dont want to re-install XP?

Thanks

If the original sound card was intergrated on the motherboard, you will have to disable it in BIOS.

When you replaced the card, did you uninstall the drivers for the old one?

Type SERVICES.MSC in the Run dialog box off the Start Menu and hit the Enter key.  In the dialog box that opens up, scroll down to Windows Audio service, make sure it is enabled and set to Automatic (double click it and click the Start button, and then set Startup type in the listbox.)

Hi,

There is this troubleshooting on devices
- Clearing Safe mode's multiple instances, etc.
- Show Hidden Devices" under the "View" menu in Windows XP
