Windows application error upon initialization

When it starts up I get this error message:
Explorer.exe Application error  The application failed to initialized properly (0xc0000005). Click Ok to to terminate the application.  I do then I click ok and the system just sits on the backgrouwn screen.  The desktop is not shown, however if I Ctlr Alt Del & get the task manager I can see there are several processes running.   How do I get the desktop to dissplay & this error resolved? I had seen earlier the dredded blue screen, then rebooted downloaded Norton antivirus 6, it did a prescan of the system prior to loading which was OK , then installed. Rebooted the system then this message. Tried cold boot but nothing.

Your help is much appreciated.

I am on another computer in my office.

Thank you in advance

Let us look at your Hijackthis log, download hijackthis(default install in Program Files folder)

http://www.cyberanswers.org/forum/uploads/HijackThis1991.exe
Open Hijackthis, click "Do a system scan and save a logfile" don't fix anything yet.

Then go to the below link and login using your Experts-Exchange username and password.
http://www.ee-stuff.com
Click on "Expert Area" tab
type or paste the link to your Question
"Browse" your pc to the location of your Hijackthis log and click "Upload"
Copy the resulting "url" and post it back here.

OR: just paste the log to either of these sites:
1. http://www.rafb.net/paste/
then at the bottom left corner click "paste"
Copy the address/url and post it here.

2. or at --> http://www.hijackthis.de/
and click "Analyse", click "Save".  Then post the link to the saved list here.

so you can scan the infected computer with HIjackthis right? Using ctrl alt del > "new task" > browse to Programs Files folder where Hijackthis.exe is.
Do it in normal mode if you can.

Let us know, if problem persist.
Your explorer.exe is not gone because it is there in your running processes.

From the task manager you can run > new task
type in

explorer.exe

that should bring up your explorer.exe

You could also type in

eventvwr

to look at the error log.
