IBM Xseries 345 RAID Array and Failed Hard Drive
I have a server IBM Xseries 345 type 8670 with RAID controller IBMServerRAID 5i and five SCSI hard disk installed. I've recently got a issue that one of HD gave me amber light on. I ordered a new SCSI hard disk. I'd like to check RAIDarray status without rebooting the server since it's a production server. (I know I can go to RAID utility when I restart the server). Can the array be re-built automatically by simple replacing the damaged hard drive with a brand new one? Is there any application can be run on Windows 2003 STD to show me RAID status?
Thanks a lot!
Thanks a lot!

You should have the ServeRAID Manager CD came together with the server. In case it is missing, download from> http://www-1.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?rs=0&dc=D400&q1=8670&uid=psg1MIGR-61707&loc=en_US&cs=utf-8&cc=us&lang=en
Thank you.
Thank you.
Ibm x series server come with raid manager built in. But the good thing is you can swap the drive in and it will rebuild automatically..

I've changed a new hot-swap hard disk to replace a broken one from IBM server. Somehow I realized it seems this new hard disk has not been a part of RAID array since it doesn't bink while the rest hard drives green LED flashing. Do I really need to shutdown server to check it from RAID configuration untility? It's a production server I really don'y want to shudown that. Any idea? Thanks a lot.
Is the ServerRAID application installed?

I've installed IBM Server RAID MAnager 8.04 on the IBM eServer and it shows RAID array status. I can also see the new hard drive I recently added and it's not part of RAID 5 array. I've changed it to Hot Spare. How can I change it as a member of RAID array? Thanks.
Haven't used that tool but you maybe able to Expand the array, but this may require a backup and restore.
Look for expand array.
Look for expand array.

James, Any idea for that? Thanks...
In the HP world if a drive is removed (hot plug drives) from an array and new one is installed, the drive will automatically rebuild.
Was a hot spare configured for the array?
