The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Microsoft, XP, Professional, Custom Software using Network Logon Service - Disconnected from Domain

Asked by Calbrenar in Windows XP Operating System, Active Directory

We have a software program thats utilizing robocopy to do updates.  In order to simulate what would occur when taking the machines to a remote location we have disconnected them from the domain.  All the machines are still able to ping each other using the windows APIPA (169) addresses assigned automatically.

However when we attempt to use our sync program it fails out with an error "no logon servers available to service request"

Now the sync is supposed to be running as the network service which is defined on the master machine as having the permissions to do what is need to be done.  The way that I understand it is that the local user doesn't matter since regardless of whether the sync is started manually or automatically (when logged off and called by service) it still uses the network service account to access the remote machine.

Why would the remote machine need to verify the network service with a domain controller and/or logon server?  All I can think of is that the developers are wrong and that it is trying to check the user name instead of just letting the network service run or it is doing something with verifying the user before it allows it to access the network service.

I'd appreciate any suggestions for why this is working the way it is or possible ways around this.  We've tried using the ip addresses to no avail we may have to try making some kind of local admin and using the admin share.  Start Free Trial
