The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Assistance needed in recovering data off old Conner IDE hard drive

Asked by FASTECHS in Computer Hard Drives

Tags: , ,

Hello,

Our company has received an older style Compaq 386 machine that has a Conner CP-344 hard drive inside. We need to recover a few pieces of data off the unit itself. The drive has been removed and the drive powers up fine and doesn't make any noises. I am assuming the disk drive is in full functional condition, as when connected via a IDE-to-USB adapter, the drive installation shows the proper drive name, and if connected directly to an IDE channel on a Windows 2000 machine we have, the BIOS shows the full drive details.

However, the issue we are having is that the drive doesn't show correctly within Windows, and cannot be assigned a drive letter in Disk Manager. It shows in Device Manager with its proper name under Hard Disk Drives.

Any one have any suggestions on getting this drive to read properly? RSTUDIO freezes upon startup with this drive connected, but I have only tried on a single system.

I have checked the drive's jumpers as listed on this help site:

http://stason.org/TULARC/pc/hard-drives-hdd/conner/CP-344-42MB-3-5-HH-IDE-AT.html

And it seems that the jumpers are OK as well.

Any help on configuration or jumpers or proper software would be appreciated. This is a timely matter. Thanks again!Start Free Trial
