Can I sell my registered Microsoft software?

I want to sell some software that I registered years ago.

WARNING - In order to get your points - I need a real quick answer because my subscription runs out in about an hour (expires 11:59 p.m. Sat. Sept 8, 2007 Central Time).

I purchased Microsoft FrontPage 2003 from Best Buy in April 2005. I installed it and thus registered it. It was on my computer for a few months but after I re-installed my operating system, I never reinstalled FrontPage again.

HOW CAN I LEGALLY SELL IT ON eBay?
In other words, can I unregister it or transfer the registration to a new person?

I hope someone sees this in time!!!! Thanks much!!!! Donna

If you already registered your software, then you just can not sell them to other. I dont know if it is legal or not, but appear clear that other can not register it again for legit.

ASKER

I know with Adobe you can fill out a Transfer of [Adobe] License form (they have a PDF on their website) if you want to resell or donate an already registered product (as long as it is not an upgrade, otherwise you relinquish your rights to all former versions). However, the process takes 3-4 weeks.

I want to know if someone knows for sure if there is something similar that can be done with Microsoft software.
I am sorry but my paid membership has ended.

Thanks you guys for your help. Sorry for the confusion I had, and caused, regarding my paid membership ending and this question.

QUESTION I emailed to Microsoft Intellectual Property:
Can I deactivate my registration for Microsoft FrontPage 2003 and then legitimately sell it on eBay?

CLARIFICATION
I am the original and sole owner of the FULL retail version of Microsoft FrontPage 2003.
I have the original disk, case, and guide booklet.
I did not keep the entire box, but I do have the box top which includes the Microsoft Certificate of Authenticity.
The Product Key is on a label glued inside the case.
The software was purchased on sale for $169.99 (Reg. price = $199.99) at Best Buy in Memphis, Tenn. on or about April 7, 2005.
(FYI - If I need to, there is a 90-95% chance that I can locate the original receipt.)
I believe I had it on my computer for a short time, but when I f-disked (which I think I did several times on my old computer in 2005), I did not reinstall it; and therefore, it has not been installed on any computer since 2005, it is not installed on any computer right now, nor do I have or plan to make any copies or backup copies of it.
(In any event, I unfortunately never got around to learning how to use the program.)

PLAN OF ACTION
Since I am not "under the gun" anymore, I will post Microsoft's reply when (and if) I receive it. However, I am still open to additional suggestions.

[FYI - The reason for the termination of my paid E-E membership is solely financial. My husband and I are cutting back on EVERYTHING, and then cutting back some more! However, when I run into a major dilemma in the future (which I always do), I will highly likely purchase a month and try to get all my questions posted and answered in that time frame. Using Experts-Exchange has been EXTREMELY HELPFUL and I usually go to it first when I have a computer-related problem because I know there is a very good chance that I will find what I am looking for and know that it is reliable information.]

Okay, the delay is my fault.
I have been meaning to call Microsoft, and it keeps getting put on the back burner. I promise I am going to do it tomorrow (Tuesday), and will post Tuesday evening with my findings so that I can close this question.
I will let you know what I find out.
Thanks much for your patience.

I called a Microsoft Customer Service Representative at 800-426-9400 and asked about transferring the license ONE TIME for a full retail version of FrontPage 2003 that I owned.

At first, the gentleman said, NO, I could not.

Then I referred him to Jason1178's EULA Point #14 comment.

He put me on hold for a short time, and came back and said that YES, I can legitimately sell it on eBay if:
1. I am the orginal owner of the software
2. That it is a retail version (not educational/academic)
3. I must NOT have it installed on any computer.
4. The license can only be transferred ONE time.
5. I must surrender the CD and everything that came with it.
6. When I sell it, I have to make sure I state that it is pre-owned software.
7. He emailed me the EULA PDF for this software and told me to include it as a link in my eBay description. That link is:
http://download.microsoft.com/documents/useterms/FrontPage_2003_English_b0be7eaf-1d6e-4df0-a59c-49fa9c927a60.pdf
8. Then he confirmed that the Product Key I had was valid and that I should not have any problem.

Thanks!!!!

Good luck.
>4. The license can only be transferred ONE time.

This is a difficult one for the buyer/seller to know the status of.  The buyer must get some undertaking from the seller that the item has not been previously transferred.  The seller might make an innocent mirepresentation of fact - the original sales receipt would nail it (see 6 above), but if the correct information (i.e., new or used) were not given on this document then you run the risk of receiving negative feedback.
moorhouselondon - That is a great idea!

I do in fact have the original receipt and will mention in the eBay description that it will be included it in the sale.

Additionally, the Microsoft rep said that I had to mention that it was pre-owned. I have kept a "paper trail" of my conversation with Microsoft - - - just in case any issues arise.

I am trying to cover all my bases to make a legitimate sale ... which I probably couldn't have done with the help of the experts of this website!

Thanks much!!!
