catia v5

I asked this question before, but Im still a little confused. I have a windows XP pro 64bit CAD machine running Catia V5 version 16, and we have a few upgrades since this was installed. Recently, one of our companies that we supply required Catia v5 version 17. I am trying to figure out how to have both versions on the CAD machine. I thought someone said you could have two different logins for the two different versions. Is that true? If so, is it hard to do?

Can't you just run the exe for each install? When I installed Catia v5 R15 then later installed v5R16 I thought I remember them saying they could still run the shortcut to R15 as well as the one to R16 since they install to different places. I could be mistaken, if the user tries to run the old shortcut do they get an error? Sorry if I was mistaken but I can't double check this information anymore.

I was going to try installing on a test machine, but I can't get past the license thing. Catia installed without incident but it wont run without some license server or file. I found the license files on my server, but I cant figure out how to install it.
Is the License Use Runtime installed? (under all program files). Of so navagate to All Programs -> License User Runtime -> Configuration Tool a window will pop up in a minute, on the right side go to "Direct binding". In that window type in the server name, and if you are unsure of the rest leave it default.

Now to check if it is detecting your licenses go to All Programs -> License User Runtime -> Basic License Tool a similar window will pop up and after a few minutes load all the available license. Then when you launch Catia it will tell you that you have no license and pop up a window to choose them. Select which ever one(s) you need and click Apply or Ok, then restart Catia, you should be all set.

If you don't have License User Runtime installed, you will need to install that first (but only once, it should work for both R16 and R17).

NOTE the above assumes that you are using a license server and not just license files. If you are unsure do what I mentioned about and see if it works.

If you are using license files (I am not sure how/if that works) I can take a guess at how you do it. First install License user Runtime, then go to Basic License Tool again. From there click "Products" -> Enroll -> Single Product... in that window go down to "Import..." and find your license file and click ok, see if that works. I am not sure about that one because I have never done it, just taking a guess on that. Let me know if that helps.
I can't find the License Use Runtime thing. I tried a reinstall in hopes that it would get to a add/remove features thing but it didn't have that. I do have a license manager, but there is a spot that shows the active server and it's grayed out. If I go to the CAD machine that has Catia installed, the active server shows one of my servers. I'm going to try uninstalling Catia and see if during the install there is a licensing thing that maybe i missed the first time.
The License Use Runtime installs off a seperate CD that should have came with Catia (it isn't a option to install it with Catia). Can you perhaps grab a screen shot so I can get a better idea of what you mean "a post that shows the active server"? Like I said I've always done it on the LUR that came with catia discs but I might be able to help you out by testing one here. Can you check one of the working machines for the LUR? If they have it I think it would be a good indication you need it. If not maybe a little more detailed information of your above comment can help me test it out.
I have a few screen shots. I looked through the Catia CD's I have and it's pretty much the Catia program and the service pack CD's. One of these screen shots shows the license manager, but it's kind of useless because I tried anything and everything in the license manager but I can't add my server.

Can you check on a working computer for the above directory. Sorry not trying to be annoying but I just want to make sure that is not the issue. My software is from IBM license through DS, and to get them working we do it via the LUM (License Use Management which installs the LUR). If you are just using one then I don't think it would be an issue and not needed, but since you said the other computers are showing the server there has to be a license manager on the server, otherwise you'd just be importing a license file and wouldn't see a server. Now I dunno about yours but the LUM I believe is a IBM product so it's possible you might not have it. But double checking for the LUR on a working computer will help use determine if that's how you're doing it.

Just to play it safe, I am going to install it on my local machine and see if I can import any license files or anything and tell you how I did it.

FYI the License Manager ONLY works when it pulls the license, if it is not finding a license it is useless to you. When we get this setup correctly it will open up the license that you have purchased via the license file. You do not use that to import licenses or anything, that is simply to select which one of the available licenses to use. Going to install it now Ill let you know what I find out.
This is so much fun! I found the LUM installation file!! I go to run the stupid thing and now I get another error message. I attached a screen shot. This kind of thing reminds me of being new to Linux and trying to install things from tar files, and then the dependency nightmare beings. I'm trying to google for a cure to this, but if you have an idea I would GREATLY appreciate it.

I found this read me that states the following.
"
License Use Management Runtime

For the latest changes to the product information,
including updated information about License Use
Management Runtime software requirements, refer to
the file readme.ark located in the root
directory of the License Use Management image.

Package Content
---------------
This License Use Management Runtime package contains
the following components:

       1.  Runtime
       2.  Communications
       3.  Documentation

Overview of Component Installation
----------------------------------
 1. Install the Runtime component on the machines
that will work as license servers (network
    license server, nodelocked license server,
    central registry license server).

If the Runtime component is installed alone, you
can run only the nodelocked license server, and
only nodelocked license types can be handled.

If the Runtime component is installed along with
the Communications component, you can run any
type of license server, and all license types
    can be handled.

 2. Install the Communications component on the
clients of your network, to enable them to
communicate with network license servers and the
    central registry license server.

 3. Install the Documentation component if you want
to access the online User's Guide, Command
Reference, and Message Reference.  They are
provided in HTML format in the library:

       \ifor\win\bin\en_US

    Using License Use Runtime   lumusg.htm
    Message Reference           lummsg.htm

You can view them in a Web browser.

So apparently I have to find the "Communications component" for my workstation, and I guess that talks to the server. Now the trick is finding it.
Just to make sure that it isn't due to the fact that you are missing the version of isscript you need try following the instructions here:
http://consumerdocs.installshield.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=Q108158&sliceId=1
then try running the processes again, see if that helps. Do your disc have the IBM logo on them? If so you can get a IBM idea and download the LUM for free at:
http://www-01.ibm.com/software/awdtools/lum/support.html
"http://consumerdocs.installshield.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=Q108158&sliceId=1"

this link isn't working, would you have the general idea of what this says?

sorry this is taking so long, also for whatever reason, that link started working for me. sorry to ask for an explanation and end up not needing it. I'm still trying to determine the msi version of the License Use Management installer. I tried what the web site suggested, right click the msi file and go to properties, but when i do this, there isn't a version tab. i'm googleing to see if there is another way to find the version.
