Simplify math problem

Need help in with this:

Simplify   1/2(x+3+1/3(3x+6)

Start by simplifying this :

        1/3(3x+6)

How would you do that ?
The first step you can do is 1/3(3x+6) which becomes (x+2)

So you have (x+3+x+2) which just becomes 2x+5

and then 1/2(2x+5) which becomes x+2.5

Ok so with the new ) in there the problem works out like this.

1/2(x+3) cant be simplified any more so it just becomes x+3 all over 2

1/3(3x+6) still comes out to x+2

so you have (X+3)/2 + x+2

multiply by 2 to get rid of the fractions and you have

x+3 + 2x +4

Simplify that down and you have 3x +7

Thank, i worked it out again, i think i got it, i had one question the answer to the problem was actually, how do they keep everything over 2.

3          7
---x +  ---
2          2
>> how do they keep everything over 2.

Well, what did you get ?

i got 3x+7, but nothing over 2
>> i got 3x+7, but nothing over 2

Then you made a mistake somewhere.

Could you show the different steps you took to arrive at that solution ?

i multiplied 1/2(x+3) which makes it 2x+6, then for 1/3(3x+6), i simplified and made is 1/3, 3(x+2)  the 3 cancel out so i get 2x+6+x+2, am i doing this right, now i got 3x+8.  i am lost now on how to simplify this.

awking, i understand you can then express 3x/3 as x and 6/3 as 2, but i dont understand which can also be expressed as 2x/2 and 4/2
giving x/2 + 3/2 + 2x/2 + 4/2

>> i multiplied 1/2(x+3) which makes it 2x+6,

No, remember that you have to divide by 2, not multiply by 2 (see also my earlier comment http:#25830280)

Okay, i understand now, I figured it out, thanks for your help.
>> I figured it out, thanks for your help.

If you want, you can show the different steps you took now, and we can check it for you.
Because the first half of your expression shows a denominator of 2 (x/2 and 3/2), while the second half of the expression shows no denominator (x and 2), which is actually a denominator of 1, the least common denominator is 2. So to express x having a denominator of 2 is 2x/2 and expressing 2 with a denominator of 2 is 4/2.
