Seagate External Hard Drive Failure
I have a seagate Mseries external hard drive, P/N 9nl6ar-500
I can not get it to power on properly and im affraid it may be smoked. When I plug it in it will not properly power up, the lighted area round the case just flashes yellow but the HD will do nothing else. Any suggestions??
It will not access through either the firewire or the USB.

Have you tried using it on another computer?

Yes I have, same result on both........ drive just flashes yellow, dont even hear it spinning up.
I would try to open up the enclosure and try to hook the drive up to a computer. The only problem is that sometimes the enclosure has special screws. I had one before that had a 5 point security star and I finally found online from a maker Klann.

I dont even see any screws.... I tried to pop it apart but it seems like its glued together and im pretty sure if I push it it will break the plastic
opening the case to the HDD will most likely void the warranty. However, you could possibly be able to connect the internal HDD directly to the motherboard and recover your data.
Other than this, you'd have to send your HDD to a professional data recovery service.
