Windows 7 upgrade and program HP DVD Play
I have a compact presario cq50-139wm computer. I watch DVD movies using a program HP DVD play. I recently upgraded this computer from Windows Vista Home Basic to Windows 7 Home Premium. My HP DVD Play program no longer fuctions. I uninstalled it and attempted to reinstall it and the install fails and states that this software is intended for windows Vista only. HP tech support states that they have a fix but I must purchase a maintaince contract for $170. I can not afford that at this time. Can you help?
A lot of DVD's have issues with codecs and also with Media Player and DRM (copyright) issues. I have used a number of "other" media players to get around both issues and lately have been using a free one called VLC Player (Video Lan Media Player) which works very well. If you use the built in media player and it has issues you can download a 'codec' pack and install it but the only way I have been able to get some DVD's to play when there is a copyright issue is by using a player other than Windows Media Player. (This issue occurs even with store bought DVD's)
