Security Center problems

Hi All....I've got a Vista machine here that HAD some malware issues. Looks like everything is good EXCEPT the Security Center acts like its not there or has been disabled. The Security Service has been turned off...when I try to turn it on I get The Security Center Service can't be started. Also the Firewall Service Is Not Running...I've looked for these in the services and they are not there...any ideas?

Type msconfig in the search box in the start menu press enter, click services and look for security center and tick it then click ok and restart your pc, there are other ways but this might be the easyest.
It sounds like your machine is infect with a virus the bed way to handle this is to restart your machine into safe mode with networking download malwarebytes(free) http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free
Scan your system for malware and then click on this link to check your system for viruses http://go.eset.com/us/online-scanner/run/

Once you finish both restart your system in normal mode tr turning firewall back on if it fails scan your system again with both malwarebytes and Nod32 in normal mode

I hope it's helps you if it is easer and you don't have any critical data on system I would completely wipe I clean and reinstall OS (not a big fan of visita) or just do a system restore to an earlier time.

Thank you,
Sam

If the infection is that bad, it might be worth considering that the machine should be wiped and rebuilt.

Rogue killer might be something worth looking at (options 3, 4, and 5) I had a similar problem with a 2012 AV problem, and though it wasn't strictly made for this issue, the variant I saw was making use of the same type of registry exploits.

I will differ to gamer girl on the issue, but it's a thought.

Thanks for the quick replies......All 3 of the registry keys are missing. The machine was infected with Vista Security 2012 and no telling what else. Tdsskiller found a trace and removed it. MBAM also found a few and removed them. Hijackthis also found a few nasties....so I think the computer is free of malware. Im not totally confident in my registry editing skills so I may ask more questions before making changes. I have a working Vista laptop that I can export registry keys from. Im assuming I export them to a flash drive? Im going to backup the pictures and other documents to an external drive first. I like to understand exactly what Im doing and why......lol            Don
My favorite way is to burn to optical media, no chance of a bug hitching a ride on the media.
The importing of the reg keys worked ....with a little gamergirl tweeking! Thanks for all the great help once again....your the BEST!!!....          Don
Glad to know it's been resolved!
