The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Network Threat Protection in Symantec EP 11 will not stay off

Asked by jtgerdes in Symantec Anti-Virus Software, Anti-Virus, Server Anti-Virus

We have a client running Symantec Endpoint Protection 11 and we've had several issues with it.  I'll start with the most important "title" issue and then mention the others.

They've had it installed for a couple months now and other than the more minor issues I'll mention shortly, it's run fine.  This morning however, their practice management software would not open on the workstations while it would open on the server.  The workstations said to make sure the service was running on the server which it was.  All the usual restarting the service and other fixes wouldn't work so we then tried disabling Network Threat Protection in Symantec EP 11 on the server and it worked on the workstations again.

Ideally, we'd like to figure out how to create an exception for the service and leave Network Threat Protection on, but we couldn't figure that out right away so we just left it off.  But it ends up turning itself back on after a few minutes.

So that's our most pressing issue - really we'd like to find out where we could get a good resource to learn more about Symantec EP 11 to be able to figure this stuff out on our own, but we haven't found anything yet.

The other issue that is just more annoying than anything is that the antivirus part keeps popping up warnings for components of our managed services agent (auditing and remote control utilities) on the workstations.  We've tried several methods of creating exclusions and nothing seems to stop the pop ups on the workstations.

Any assistance would be appreciated.   Thanks.Start Free Trial
