I am trying to permanently delete files off of an extra computer that I have. I have ran "Eraser" "Lavasoft File Shredder" and 'Delete Files Permanently". I have used several levels of deletiion (7 pass and even 35 pass wiping!). When I run a program called "Recover My Files" it finds many recoverable JPEG files. These files are shown as "lost files". I have wiped the free hard drive space several times already and these files are still showing up. I recognize these files as thumbnail pictures from profiles on websites I have visited. I used Mozilla Firefox when visiting these sites and then deleted Firefox at some point thinking that would delete all traces of files/websites viewed with Firefox. Unfortunately the thumbnails are still there.
There was a similar question posted here in 2004 and the suggestion was to use a file recovery program, save the recovered files to a folder and then use DeepDelete3 to delelte the recovered files. The person who posted the files said that didn't work. Then he posted again saying he had figured it out (it had something to do with AOL - which I don't use) but didn't say what he did to figure it out.
I would greatly appreciate any suggestion. Would restoring the system to a previous restore point help? All of these websites were viewed in June/July/August of this year.
