Browse All Topicsi have installed "encyrption plus hard disk (EPHD)" on my dell d620 laptop. However i cannot power-up with the laptop in the docking station as it will only allow me to enter the EPHD power on username and password through the laptop keyboard. The product FAQ talks about enabling USB support in the BIOS but as far as i know it is already enabled. Any ideas how I can enable the entry of the ephd username/password through the docking station k/b and screen please ?

My support team can confirm a problem with the Belkin external keyboard model number F8E885-BLK on Dell computers encrypted with EPHD. We suspect there is a USB logic/circuit timing/or physical problem that prevents some of these systems from communicating with the keyboard properly. A side-effect also noted was the (my words) "typematic key repeat rate" when using this keyboard; some characters appeared on the password screen repeatedly (more than once) while other characters failed to appear at all (unless the key was pressed repeatedly). This was highly annoying and unworkable for the end users, so we were forced to discontinue using the Belkin keyboards.
Some of the Dell have two (2) USB settings in BIOS, I think they are worded "USB Support" and "USB Emulation" and some system demonstrated marginal improvement during login when "USB Emulation" was enabled. So, if anyone else can adequately explain why this worked, I would be happy to listen.

Can you access the BIOS settings through the docking station kb & screen when docked? pport/down loads/driv erslist.as px? c=us&l= en&s=gen&S erviceTag= &SystemID= LATITUDE%2 0D620&os=W W1& osl=en& catid=&imp id=
If NO, then this is not an issue with EPHD but with the hardware combination itself. Check for a BIOS update for the D620 on the Dell site: http://support.dell.com/su
Enter your servicetag to be sure to get the right BIOS.
