Browse All TopicsI would like to have the sensor log remotely to a Kiwi syslog server on the same subnet. I have tried setting the log alerts to point to my host which is resolvable by DNS but no logs are appearing on Kiwi's console. Currently I have a sensor setup that is logging locally to mysql reporting through BASE with no problems.
Kiwi appears to be setup to listen (it's self-test works fine), but in running tcpdump on the sensor I don't see any UDP traffic headed to my Kiwi syslog server when I generated alerts using Zenmap from my syslog server but I see a flood of the IP-tables reporting the default drop messages (ICMP unreachable - admin prohibited).
Am I wrong in thinking Snort can output to a syslog server for it's database reporting in the first place or is syslog only for alerts perhaps?
Any help greatly appreciated, this seems like it should be straightforward so obviously I am missing something basic here.
