How to hide/disguise/use a proxy server with a static ip address from a broadband connection

I have for some reason been given a static ip address by my broadband provider, and have noticed that whenever I access a website, my name is left on their weblog along with my static ip address.

This worries me, as i keep private information on my home pc, so some form of security over and above a decent firewall would help.

Anyone know how I would

a) hide my ip address
b) disguise my ip address - I've seen the use of a shell mentioned.
c) access a proxy server to mask my ip address

Google for anonymizers (ie web proxies). Examples can be found through http://www.cexx.org/anony.htm or eg http://www.anonymizer.com/ for web-based anonymizing.

This will only partly hide you. You should also look into a firewall (I'd suggest a standard personal firewall - there are a bunch free ones to download).

Hi,

Right to the point, some options:

1) Use proxy server. You may want to get your ISP to provide for you. Usually they have proxies.

2) Use anonymous proxy (one of them is like suggested by jlindq above)

3) Use SSH tunnel. This trick requires external server (eg. located at data centre or hosting company). What you need to to is establish an SSH session from your PC to this server, then forward the port you want to use to this server. By doing so, the destination server will 'see' you are coming from this server instead of your original IP.

use an anonymous proxy from multiproxy.org , pref in another country where the admin does'nt speak english.
set your browser to use the proxy you want (tools internet options connection tab in I.E)
if you want to be really secure try chaining proxies together using proxy relaying so you use more than one anonymous proxy

my suggestion fully covers a), b) and c)
and if someone checks, you'll see that this proxy is coverd by law in germany and courts there approved that (full anonymity, no access to data for civil offices, police, secret services, etc. etc.:)
