The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Firewall log - port spoofing, smtp success, hijacked wireless?

Asked by dpmcmull in Miscellaneous Security, Consumer Firewalls

First, a description of my LAN - I've got a SonicWall SOHO10 firewalling my internet connection (cable modem) with a D-Link 614+ providing wireless access throughout my house.  I've been getting lot of the following entries in my firewall log.

Sep/03/2003 21:58:03
 SMTP: send mail succeed
Sep/03/2003 21:58:01
DHCP lease IP 10.0.1.100 to     OEMComputer   00-80-C8-12-E1-61
Sep/03/2003 21:58:01
Target IP(255.255.255.255), Target Port(67)   Packet Dropped
Sep/03/2003 21:58:01
 Spoof IP(0.0.0.0), Spoof Port(68)
Sep/03/2003 21:58:01
 Spoof Attack fromd MAC(00-80-C8-12-E1-61) Detect,

This cycle repeats itself every 10 minutes or so.  OEMComputer is my laptop that I connect wirelessly to my D-Link 614+.  I have WEP turned on (although I realize it is fairly easily hacked) and Norton Antivirus running (with all the latest updates).

My question: Does anyone have any ideas as to what could be causing this?  I'm guessing that maybe someone has hacked my WEP encryption & is using my internet connection to send spam.  How can I find out if this is the case?  Does anyone have any ideas as to what this may be if it's not a hijacked connection?

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks.
