Possible Antivirus killer virus???

HELP!

I had this old crummy free Antivirus that just didnt work anymore... i would run it and it would close automatically, after a split second. I thought it just sucked because it was free.

Ok... well... now i finally get a good virus scanner (Mcafee Virus scanner) i install it... when i click to run the program it closes after a split second! ... i run the instant updater exe and it closes automatically too!

I've read about viruses that have somthing that kill your AV software... Am i infected? how can i get it off so i can run my anti virus?
