Hi pcoach4u,

Check for spywares and virus in the system

Spyware:

--------

Some of the experts here have helped in compiling all the important spyware tools and they are listed in this thread

http://www.experts-exchange.com/Web/Browser_Issues/Q_20975384.html

My recommendation would be to start with

spybot : www.softpedia.com/public/cat/10/17/10-17-21.shtml

Ad-Aware : http://download.com.com/3000-2094-10045910.html?legacy=cnet

CWshredder : http://www.softpedia.com/public/cat/10/17/10-17-150.shtml

Hijackthis : http://www.spychecker.com/program/hijackthis.html

After installing them, First Update them and then run

virus scanner:

I think sunray is on the right track. Here's the method I use at work for the issue you described.

1)Clear your IE cache and temp files.
2) Run in this order updated versions of SpyBot and AdAware. Utilize the "immunize" feature on SpyBot after you have scanned.
3) Reboot your pc. Run SpyBot once again.
4) Launch IE to test.

Removal tools:

SpyBot-S&D : http://www.webattack.com/download/dlspybot.shtml

Ad-aware : http://www.webattack.com/download/dladaware.shtml

CWShredder: http://www.softpedia.com/public/cat/10/17/10-17-150.shtml

Hi sunray 2003 and stevenshealthcare

This one has been a little bit fun, so far I have found Welchia.B, Nachia.B and before I left for lunch it had found another virus, of which I will not know till tonight. With the Norton being corrupt even after a full un-install and re-install, I put a copy of AVG on it, got rid of the Nachia.B,
I then downloaded the updates and before I left it had found a 3rd virus infection. I had run, Adaware and Spybot previously. I will have another HJT log tonight. Here is the one I was working with. Sorry abut not having all the windows closed first before running the HJT.

I would be suspicious of
C:\WINDOWS\System32\fodbvh.exe
and
C:\WINDOWS\System32\ewbgajmdgwu.exe
and
C:\WINDOWS\System32\E_S5F.tmp
navigate to them, right click and choose properties, see who the author is. most valid files will tell you the company name, etc
also try and open the tmp file in notepad and see what it is
another one to check is

if your using the same computer that is infected to access the internet it may be calling other virues.
dont use it to get online . if you must then , add a freeware firewall like zonealarm it will warn
you what apps or dlls will access the internet and prompt you to block , also apply the latest
patches and problems with the servicepacks.
also try running all scans in safemode its a must.
another thing  is startin removing autrun and autostart programs.
also run stinger from macfee.

all other options were covered by the other experts , just continue removing the dirt till your left with a cleaner
system, if you cant get rid of a certain application let us know, as some tend to come back , the trick is to
stop the apps or apps , then remove them manually or with a tool. if you do it while their running / 1 of the
apps will call again to renew or rebuild the other. goodl luck and keep us posted.

Hi pcoach4u,

Close all browsers, delete temporary internet files and cookies.
From your hijackthis logfile, tick the checkbox in front of the following lines. Afterwards, click "Fix checked"

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [B6619DEA] C:\WINDOWS\System32\ewbgajmdgwu.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Microsoft Update] wuamgrd.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Windows Update] C:\WINDOWS\System32\fodbvh.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [Microsoft Update] wuamgrd.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [DD0033E1] C:\WINDOWS\System32\ewbgajmdgwu.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Microsoft Update] wuamgrd.exe

Take a look here on wuamgrd.exe:
http://uk.trendmicro-europe.com/enterprise/security_info/ve_detail.php?id=59019&VName=WORM_SDBOT.MU&VSect=T

Then, reboot the computer and delete the offending files.

I hope I'm not stepping on anyones toes... by filling in here :)

Greetings,

LucF

  hey pcoach4u,

You can also download the definitions from this link and execute the .exe installer file.
http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/defs.download.html
These are the Intelligent Updater definitions and is another option for installing the
virus definitions instead of using Live update.

Good Luck

Hi all,
As it turned out, this computer had the W32 WelchiaB, W32 NachiaB and SDBOT worms.

Thank you for the input, due to time constraints I had to get this out quick. I have been studying worms and viruses for about 4 years, but have just started to use these tools recently: I.E. HJT, Spybot, Adaware, etc. I removed all of the worms manually except SDBOT wich AVG removed for me.
Now as far s the input and ponits go.

>>As it turned out, this computer had the W32 WelchiaB, W32 NachiaB and SDBOT worms.<<
At this moment, about all I can suggest is to start updating windows as fast as you can. Also install a firewall like Zonealarm or enable the winXP build in one as it'll prevent a lot of troubles in the future.

Anyway, glad to help,

For COBOLdinosaurs links, they all work for me, what browser do you use? As they're relative links and some browsers don't understand those.

LucF, that computer is now back home with the customer and they are all smiles. After I removed all the worms, put AVG on it, put Z/A on it ran all updates and the HJT log was clean and it ran great. I am learning to better utilize the tools out there to speed up the work I do, as I have been removing them for about 4 years now all manually. The tools save me some time.....*_*  As far as the browser goes, I was using Safari  at the time, s I do both MAC and Windows.  Those links work fine in IE, but not in Safari. Code is compatible with Safari I guess.
