Hi.
Problem. I am an IT Technician in a school that runs a windows 2000 domain with windows 2000 servers and windows 2000 professional clients.
Some of the kids have worked something out, that comprimises our security. The users' start menu is a shared start menu and is saved in the Policies folder of the netlogon folder of one of the windows 2000 servers. I have used group policies to direct all users start menus and desktops to a specific folder. The kids have worked out that if they double-click the start - programs button, the actual start menu folder that resides in Netlogon on one of our windows 2000 servers opens up in a windows. They then are able to browse all the computers in the network. Obviously, they don't have acces to a lot of computers, but they can see the computer names and browse the printers and see the users accounts on the computers. How can i prevent them doing this and how can i get rid of My Network Places in the Address bar search? That would solve a lot of problems, coz they can access the My Network Places in the the Address or File windows of applications such as MS Word and Access even though it is hidden/prevented through group policies.
thanks guys.
