Someone used my pc to access the interenet and set the IE security to low (usually I have it at either at high of medium).
As a resut, my home page was hijacked and a bunch of nasty spyware was dumped on my pc. I used Spybot and Ad-ware SE personal to clean up. Both picked up bad files, but didn't cleanup every thing.
I still believe however that the pc is infected with some sofisticated spyware. This is because when I launch the IE browser I get a page titled "Home Page" with a search engine (even though I have set my home page to blank). The page displayed is mostly blank, but when I select view-source I can see a lot of garbage in the html/java script code.
Some thing that caught my attention, is that the java script code has a variable decalred called" PIN = 28129. It will then do something like: var counter = <img src ="http://ww.rb" + "37.com/cnt/hp?"+PIN+" alt=' ' border='0'>";
It also has some thing like: var addr ="onmoresearch.net/search.
The code also has something like: src="res://shdoclc.dll/fla
This leads me to think that the system is still infetcted.
When I go to windows Add/remove utility I find entries for programs I don't recognize.
"Home Search Assistant"
"Shopping Wizard" and
"Win-dh"
This laptop connected to a network occasionally, and I am afraid that other computers might get infected if I connect.
I might end up formatting the HD and start from scracth, but it will be a timely task.
My question is, which spy removal software would be the best to use. Can I do a manuall file/registery cleanup, and what should I be looking for. Does anyone recognize the above adware programs.
Thanks for the help
