The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Terminal Services 2003 Security

Basic setup and idea - We are a call center looking to implement remote agents. At this time, we are not going to be using VOIP, but utilizing their analog lines for calls, while they run a program from Terminal Services that interfaces with an AS400 to provide them with client customized data entry applications. The question I am debating is whether to open the terminal servers up to the internet so they can just connect with a web browser, or have them VPN in first, then run a terminal server session. (there is a piece of software that normally would reside on the desktop, but to simplify things on our end, we want to use terminal server sessions to run the software).

As I said, we have no control over the remote agents computers, as independant contractors, I believe all we can require of the them is that they have a minimum spec for the pc, and a broadband connection. We want to avoid as much configuring of these machines as possible (hence the idea to have them just connect to a terminal server externally). I realize VPN probably is going to be the most secure way to handle this, but I still dont particularly like the idea of handing VPN connection info and thus a connection to my network to a bunch of random PCs (Im also thinking of the turnover in this business, and no reliable way of removing that info if they quit or are 'let go') that we have no control over. There are other things to consider, but these are the major points - Can I go with Terminal Server over the internet and secure it sufficiently, or is VPN the way to go??
