My question is as follows:
I have a pop email that runs through Outlook 2003 and NIS 2005 scan's the incoming and outgoing emails as I can see on the "progress bar" and the envelope that shows the arrow of up or down.
I have another email account that runs through outlook 2003, but it pulls the email from a microsoft exchange server email account with my business. There is no progress bar or envelope to see if it is actually working when checking this email.
I am curious to know why NIS 2005 WILL NOT check the Microsoft Exchange Server email account and WILL a Pop3 account?

If I understand you correctly, Norton will only scan the mail when you try to open it. Have you tried this, i.e. open a particular message that you know contains and infected attachment? (Don't click on the attachment itself, just open the message).

Re. scanning pop3 email with Norton, you might consider excluding that from being scanned. Even though that seems like a good thing, there are many problems when Norton scans incoming pop3 mail. See:
