Change Serial/Asset Number on Bios

Ok, i have a HP Tablet PC TC1100, also known as a Tx1100.

I have a need to change the serial number and the asset tag. I've tried using DMI tools however they can not write to this Bios. The bios version is as fellows:

Bios Vendor   = Phoenix
Bios Version  = FirstBIOS Pro 2002 Q3
Bios Released = 07/24/2004

After reading a HP customer solution ( http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&product=448144&docname=c00387607 ), I come to beleive that DMITool4.0 would be capable of writing to the bios and i suspect would be able to change the values that i wish to change. However this is only availabe internaly in HP and not to the public. So that was the end of that.

So, what are your thoughts? Does any one know how to write to a bios that seems to be un-writable.

In the worst case i could remove the bios and solder a new one on. I have no checked but i'm pretty sure its not socketed.

Any help would be great.

Thanks

Ok, after much marking around, and a whole night of slow progress. I got it.

To edit any section of a phenoix bios, a simple way of doing it is to download Phoenix WinPhlash, this is used to write to the bios.

You just need a copy of the rom for your bios, so that you can edit it how you want and then flash it to the bios using WinPhlash.

For me, i obtained a perfect copy from my computer manuafacture, by downloading a bios flash update. Which when used updates the bios, but not the DMI strings as i needed. But if you extract the executeble's, theres a copy of the rom, which includes the DMI strings.

So use this rom, with Phoenix's WinPhlash. And you can edit your bios however you want.

It did the job for me.

PS> I need job, so any company finds this work intresting, hire me
Hey Driver4567

I'm also trying to change the serial number, could you go on more detail on how you did it? Also is "Phoenix WinPhlash" "Phoenix BIOS editor" or are these two different programs? If so where did you get PW?

How do I get the DMI strings into the BIOS once I extract them from the Update?
Hi, I don't believe "Phoenix WinPhlash" is the same as "Phoenix BIOS editor" but it may do the job. I'm not exactly sure where I got it from I'm sure you could still find it around on the net.

When you extract them from the update. You can edit them with text editors to be what you want them to be. And then from there you can use them with Phoenix WinPhlash. I did this successfully with 2 laptops.

I'd love to hear how you go. And also just wondering but what bois version is it that your working with. And what type of computer is it in.

Good luck.
Real easy with the correct tools, but like the original poster said they are not released to the general public and due to my contract with HP I can not release them. Good look though.
Hi driver4567,

It will be very helpful for all of us if you can provide step by step instructions on editing the BIOS. I would like to change the serial number on my BIOS and I am afraid I may damage the BIOS if do any mistake making the laptop not bootable at all. Please help.

Thank you,
Bency
