Determining if file was copied

Asked by Gregg in Miscellaneous Security, Hard Drives & Storage, Microsoft Operating Systems

I teach some online courses.  I need to determine if students share files between each other.  Is there a way to determine this?  They start with files that they download.  They then make changes to the files per the instructions and then save them.  If students on different PCs do this indepdendently, but yet make the identical changes per the exercise specificatiosn, iis it possible to determine that the student truly worked independently as opposed to sharing the completed work with another student.  Of course the time and date stamp would be different, but how about other attributes that could be easily
determined?  The file names are identical and often file size is identical.  If file size is different, I immediately assume that they worked independently.

I would like to do some sort of scan for this.  The problem is that the files often are in different folders
on the flash drive or CD that they submit to me.

Call me suspicous!   I am having a hard time classifying this question!  Thanks in advance!Start Free Trial
