The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Blackberry Handheld Calendar Entries will not Sync to Exchange/Outlook 2003 SP2

Asked by dwlinder in Miscellaneous Security, Handhelds and PDAs, Blackberry Operating System

We have been working an issue for two weeks now with no resolution and wanted to get feedback.

We have a handful of users who when they put an appointment on their Device it does not sync up to Outlook/Exchange. Additionally when these people are invited to a meeting the invitation does not show in the inbox of the Handheld.

We've looked and worked with RIM and here is the basics:

Bes 4.1.4 .16 with 436 Users using MSDE
We have 4 Exchange Back end servers

BES Users on one of the Exchange Servers work perfectly when placing a calendar entry on device.

Others on the other three do not.

Things tried so far:

1. Re-Register the CDO.dll on the BES
2. Check the CDO.DLL version on all Exchange Servers
2b. Recreate the BESADMIN MAPI Profile on BES Server (Del in Registry)
3. Check all Permissions for BESADMIn Service Account in Exchange and AD
4. Look at APP Log and see Errors 20216 - Sync Failed
Looked like Permissions Issue so..
5. Recreated the BESADMIN Service Account and Reset all permissions
No Joy
6. Sent all logs to RIM - Looks like a CDO.DLL MAPI issue with error 1273
However not all people on all servers are having this issue.

7. Created Test user on Mail server and recreted the issue.
8. Moved test users to working mail server and it works from BB Device.

9. Used BESProfile.exe -m on all Exchange server to see if lookup worked.
It did on Mail2, Not on Mail3 and Not on Mail5 but did on Mail4 where one reported case is.

We have been told it may be a Domain Controller (GC) memory Leak ???
But the Domain Controllers GC's are in sync and we checked replication.

Users are frustrated.

Not sure where to go next for checking to fix the issue or to know the ROOT Cause.

BB says its a Microsoft issue that the Exchange Servers can not do a Lookup of the Mail Server/user account. My issue with that is I have one server which has at least one broken users an it can do the lookup. from the BesProfile.exe

Blackberry says its the Microsoft Messaging Subsystem on the Exchange Server that are impacted that is the issue.

We see like Access Denied to the INformation Store where the impacted BB users mailbox is located.
Checked all permissions and they look good.

RIM Says apply Memory Leak Patch on Domain Controller.. Yikes But we don't think so

Looking for way to confirm on the Exchange Server that the issue is Permissions or an issue with the Messaging SubSystem on the Exchange Server when the Blackberry Admin account tries to connect from the BES Server via the  CDO.DLL from the Calendar Helper App and can not get into the Information Store to place the calendar entries.

Entries in Outlook Client do go down to BB Device fine on the Calendar as do OWA Entries.
Invitation work fine from Outlook Client and OWA.

Just not from BB Devices for a select group of people like 10 people across three of our four Exchange Servers.

Sent BES Logs to RIM  they are pointing to  Exchange Server MAPI Subsystem for calendar sync from BB Device to Exchange Mailbox.
