I have this same problem with MSXML 6.0 SP2
I tried uninstalling but fails.  Also tried to  do a System Restore to a date before the install.  That failed!

Not sure if this is related, but the next day after MSXML 6.0 SP2 installed the MS SQL Server is stopped and therefore caused ACT! program to not connect to the database.

I tried to follow a couple of your links. The one link is to MSXML 6 SP1, but that will not install because it thinks SP2 is installed.
Help!

We're having the same problem at a restaurant's back office computer.  They are using System Manager Pro.  We tried to upgrade to SMP v.3 but are having this problem with msxml 6 sp2 so SMP cannot be installed and configured properly.  MSXML6 SP2 says "setup was interrupted", it will not uninstall, System Restore fails, and I cannot install a previous version MSXML (or SMP) or attempt to manually re-install msxml6 sp2.  I'm also getting the message "not supported on current processor type" from msxml6 sp2.  Also, the engineering team with our POS vendor that supports SMP for us currently does not have a solution to this (apparently) very new problem.

note: System Manager Pro v.3 runs off of SQL Server Express 2005.

TacoJohn,
after hours of research I fixed my problem, which also may be a fix for you.

The only way I could uninstall MSXML6 .0 SP2 is using  shareware utility called, "Windows Install Cleanup".
This is a link to the post that helped me and also contains the link to the utility
http://www.windows-tech.info/15/62c4c7d22384e2f6.php

I usually don't like installing this type of software, but it worked.

For you, your system may need MSXML of some version, but try getting a different version, I know MSXBL 6 SP1 can be downloaded.

An additional note, I installed Windows XP SP3, which then had another update KB954459, which of course is the same KB# on this post.  I want ahead and installed that update, and the software still worked.

I wonder if the MSXML 6.0 SP2 had a virus.

Let me know if that help!  Good Luck!

SeaHag:

Thanks for the suggestion.  Unfortunately, this had no effect for our restaurant's situation.

Because we cannot afford anymore down time, the PC is currently being re-imaged.  The POS softwares will also have to be reinstalled and reconfigured from scratch (though, our sales/inventory data is still intact).  We cannot function without SQL and we cannot (FOR THE LOVE OF GOD) circumvent this error.

Hell is indeed a place on earth...  ><

Update!

After trying several other things (manually installing every version of MSXML I could find) and uninstalling everything I could from Add/Remove Programs, I was still unable to uninstall MSXML 6.0 Service Pack 2.  I tried System Restore which failed.  Also, uninstalling Windows XP Service Pack 3 was failing repeatedly.  I also went into Add/Remove Windows Components and removed IIS and as well as non-essentials (Outlook Express, etc.).

For some unknown reason, I decided to boot into Safe Mode with Networking and tried to System Restore to the day before XP SP3 was installed.  It worked!!!  After that, I booted into normal mode and was able to uninstall MSXML6 SP2 through Add/Remove Programs!  Woot! I didn't have to re-install the OS after all!  Now, SMP is running as it should, SQL is running, and after getting those things installed and configured, I downloaded the stand-alone package of XP SP3 and installed it.  Everything is still up and working!

I'm not sure of exactly what things I did that helped my situation, but whatever it was worked.  Hopefully, others that are having problems with this MSXML6 SP2 will find this useful.

Hello out there,

I don't know if your problem is related to SQL Express installation.
I yes, read below.
If no, the solution I give can help other people as "my" issue with SQL & MSXML led to this thread via Google.

I had this issue when installing Microsoft's "Business Contact Manager".
Actually, the problem occured when I tried to install an SQL Express 2005 on a XP + SP3 because of a conflict between SP3 and MSXML (KD95449). MSXML is somehow "needed" by SQL Express.

(SQL express 2005 is an underlying component of Business Contact Manager)

=> The objective is to remove "MSXML 6 Service pack 2" to be able to install SQL Server (and/or BCM in my case).
BUT: from "add/remove programs", the uninstallation of this component fails.

Use this: http://download.microsoft.com/download/e/9/d/e9d80355-7ab4-45b8-80e8-983a48d5e1bd/msicuu2.exe

Then MSXML is gone for good.
Then you can install SQL express 2005.

'hope it can help

I solved it myself using this solution as a basis. Tediously I reinstalled Windows from the original CD ( not repair ) and everything worked after I had reinstalled 120 udates! Now all I have to do is get rid of masses of duplicated items.

mchkorg nailed for SQL Server 2005 installation. MSXML6 must be removed otherwise setup fails.

I know the thread is old... but I think people don't full grasp how the clean-up tool works, so:

The program does not un-install directly. You must install the application and then look for Windows Clean-up Utility in your Programs Menu. Once located launch the program and select the programs you wish to have removed.
